To reach Casa Leopardi we will cross other symbolic places of the city such as
Palazzo Venieri, the churches of San Vito and Sant’Agostino, whose bell tower is mentioned by Leopardi in the poetry the “Passero solitario”. Visit of Palazzo Leopardi, the birthplace of the poet, overlooking on the pitch that took its name from a famous opera by Giacomo “Il sabato del Villaggio”, on one side the stables and the house of Silvia. The entire first floor of the house is occupied by the famous library, while the rest of the building is still home of the family. The main floor consists of elegant rooms with frescoed ceilings, decorated walls and furnishings dating back to the period between the 16th and 19th centuries. In these “ancient halls” Giacomo spent his childhood together with his brothers. The library houses more than 20,000 volumes, most of which
collected and ordered by Count Monaldo Leopardi, father of Giacomo. Not far from the birthplace of the poet there is the ancient monastery of St. Stephen, where Giacomo Leopardi set the famous poem “l’Infinito”. Hotel accommodation for dinner and overnight. Free lunch.
Breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Loreto, for the visit of the Basilica della Santa Casa, one of the most famous places of Marian worship, an incessant destination for pilgrimages. The Sanctuary was founded, thanks to the collaboration of artists such as Bramante and Vanvitelli, to guard the walls of the Holy House of Mary of Nazareth, which according to tradition, was flown by angels to Loreto.
Inside the Holy House is preserved the statue of the “Black Madonna” protector of aviators. At the entrance of the basilica you will find the majestic monument to Pope Sixtus V, and you will see the Vanvitelliano bell tower that blends perfectly with the imposing Apostolic Palace that is located next to the basilica, and in which it is preserved the Treasure Museum.
